Denticon: what it is and who it fits
Denticon is built for organisations that want to run many locations the same way. That is its strength and, for a small group, its cost.
Denticon is a cloud practice management platform from Planet DDS, aimed squarely at multi-location groups and DSOs. It has been in the cloud dental market a long time, which shows in how it handles the things that only matter at scale — centralised reporting, standardised workflows, and administering many sites as one organisation.
Who it genuinely fits
- Groups running enough locations that standardisation matters more than per-site autonomy.
- Organisations with a central business office that wants one view across every site.
- Operators who need consistent workflows enforced rather than suggested.
Who it fits less well
A two- or three-location group often finds the centralisation heavier than the problem warrants. The platform's design assumes a central function exists to use it — if that function is one office manager wearing several hats, much of the value goes unused while the operational weight remains.
What it changes for the front office
- Cross-location scheduling and patient records are genuinely unified, so a patient seen at two sites is one record rather than two.
- Reporting rolls up without exports and reconciliation, which is the single biggest day-to-day gain over desktop systems.
- Permissions and workflow are centrally set, which reduces drift between sites — and reduces local flexibility.
What it does not change
Claims still need following up. Aging still needs working down. Verification still needs doing before the appointment. Centralising the software does not create the hours to do any of that — it just makes the backlog visible in one place instead of several.
That is the gap we fill, working inside whichever system a practice already runs.
Questions
Is Denticon better than Dentrix Ascend?
Neither is better in the abstract. At a handful of locations Ascend is typically the lighter operational fit; at larger scale with heavy central standardisation Denticon earns a serious look. See our Dentrix Ascend vs Denticon comparison for the detail.
Is Denticon cloud-based?
Yes — it is browser-based with no server to maintain on site, which is a core part of its multi-location proposition.
Can an outsourced team work in Denticon?
Yes, via scoped user permissions. We work inside client systems rather than exporting data into ours, under a signed BAA.
